This month I officially kicked off my campaign for a second term on the Grandview Heights School Board. I am incredibly proud of the work that has been done during my first term and hope that I can count on the voters’ support so that we can build upon those achievements.
Four years ago, when I first ran for a spot on the school board, I did so to support Grandview’s education community, foster collaboration between the school district and the city, and be a voice for all my constituents. Over these years I believe I have listened to my fellow community members, parents, and educators and drew on their feedback to keep our schools thriving. Everyone who I served with on the board understood that we were there as representatives of a larger entity and all the decisions we made were in service of the greater good.
Of course, it is no surprise that these last 18 months or so were nothing like I (or any of us) expected to face. The COVID-19 pandemic challenged students, parents, teachers, and administrators in ways that we could not have imagined. Together, though, I believe we have weathered the worst of the storm and hope that our schools can return to something resembling normal.
When I told people that I was going to run for a second term, some were surprised. They knew the difficult conversations and challenging decisions that had needed to be made. When I looked back on the experience, though, I didn’t feel burnt out. Rather, I was fired up and found myself feeling even more passionate about our schools and more determined to be a strong advocate.
Just as I did during my first term, I can promise that when I approach every debate, conversation, and decision for our schools I will do so with a first-hand understanding of how it impacts the students, their parents, the educators, and the community. It has been an honor to serve Grandview Heights in this capacity and I look forward to the privilege of serving another four years.
In the days up to the election you will see plenty of me and my campaign staff (pictured above) around Grandview at a variety of events. I hope you will take the time to say hello and share with me your thoughts and experiences with the schools. And please continue to watch this website and my Facebook page for additional updates and campaign news.
